Minneapolis and Bakersfield

So far this trip is everything it was supposed to be – great times of catching up with close friends, some fun memories made, some time to rest and think, and lots and lots of smiles!

Dinner on the sidewalk in Minneapolis

It was so great to spend time with Neissa in Minneapolis/St. Paul! We ate sushi, took very long walks, went shopping at the Mall of America, ate in the Nordstrom’s cafe, got a little bit lost in Minneapolis (What kind of weekend would it be if we didn’t get lost? It’s a requirement.), enjoyed live music downtown while we ate dinner, and jetted around town in the very sporty Z4. :) How fun is it to be picked up from the airport in a black convertible two-seater?
Mostly it was just really nice to be in the same place for 36 hours! Love you, Neissa!
The trip from Minneapolis to Bakersfield took 14 hours, but I and my carry-ons arrived in one piece, and were met by a bear hug from Rachel. :) I hadn’t realized how good it was going to be to hug her and be hugged back! Yay!
After a quick stop at her apartment to change clothes and drop off my stuff, we headed to her church so I could meet some of her friends. It’s great to meet all these people I’ve been hearing about on the phone for months and months! She’s got a super group of friends here.
Yesterday I stayed home while she was at work and I got caught up on rest, did some reading and thinking, watched the end of The Devil Wears Prada, and tried to stay occupied until Rachel got home. Then we went out and played for the rest of the night. :) You can see some photos she posted on facebook if you click here, I think.

Early this morning I took her to work (or rather, she took me, and I then drove home) and then did some laundry, wasted time on facebook, washed dishes, enjoyed a cranberry orange scone and Starbucks, and talked to Mom and Aubrey. In a few minutes I’ll go back to Truxton Ave. and have lunch with her and her coworkers! Then, off to Borders for a couple hours of browsing, and then I’ll pick up Rachel and we’ll do whatever suits our fancy for the rest of the day. Can’t wait!
Tomorrow we’re headed to Santa Barbara or some other beach, as long as the smoke permits. It’s about 100 degrees here in Bako, so the beach sounds really good.
Gotta go pack my lunch!
Until next time,
Jen
